Welcome to the Dementia Friendly Barnsley Web page, sponsored through the Mayor's Charity 2016-2017, by  Cllr Linda Burgess and developed by the Barnsley Multi-Agency Dementia Group (now called the Dementia and Me Steering Group).

       During this unprecedented Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, we hope that this Web page is a key source of information for those needing support.

From Monday 18th May people affected by Dementia can get extra support from a free local telephone helpline from 8pm-Midnight every night of the week. Senior staff from BIADS, Age UK Barnsley, Crossroads Care for Carers, Butterflies Dementia Support and Activities Group and the Barnsley Dementia Gateway Service, all welcome calls from people needing extra support during this Coronavirus lockdown period.

Crossroads Barnsley are offering extra support to vulnerable people in our community. Offers of respite care for an hour or so, or a quick welfare check if you're isolating due to Covid-19. ‘Music and Memories’ is an open access session originally aimed at people living with dementia and their carers, now others come because they enjoy the group's uplifting nature and sharing music. Repeat events, every Monday 10am-12pm at Thurnscoe Social Club and every Wednesday 10am-12pm at Bolton on Dearne Social Club.   Weekly Social Club for all older neighbours. Pop-in for a cuppa, a natter and take part in our wide-ranging activities including dance, music, quiz, creative crafts and eating cake! b:Friend host a weekly Social Club for all older neighbours to come together and enjoy a few hours of community events and cake! Our sessions vary from dancing and singing, to poetry recitals and creative writing, making bird boxes and baking. No two weeks are the same but the main thing we focus on is fun and friendships! No need to book - just come along and see what you think.

Here at MKB Solicitors LLP we do a lot of work with the elderly, vulnerable and people with dementia. We see clients at all stages of their diagnosis, from preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney before any onset to assessing someone’s capacity to see if they can still do Lasting Powers of Attorney and if not give advice and make preparations for an application to be made to the Court of Protection to appoint a legal deputy to manage their affairs. We conduct a monthly free legal drop in clinic at BIADS on the first Thursday of each month and give an initial free legal advice meeting to assess a person’s requirements and advise of the next steps.

From Monday 18th May people affected by Dementia can get extra support from a free local telephone helpline from 8pm-Midnight every night of the week. Senior staff from BIADS, Age UK Barnsley, Crossroads Care for Carers, Butterflies Dementia Support and Activities Group and the Barnsley Dementia Gateway Service, all welcome calls from people needing extra support during this Coronavirus lockdown period.  Please don't struggle. Give us a call.
